The benefits of teeth whitening in Mesa AZ

You know the health of your mouth can have a significant impact on your overall health. Have you ever thought about the impact the appearance of your smile has on your self-confidence and self-esteem? If you have stained or discolored teeth, they can affect your daily life. This is one of the reasons that teeth whitening is the most frequently requested cosmetic dental procedure.

Before having your teeth whitened, you will need to receive a thorough dental exam from Dr. Fritz. This is to ensure that whitening is a good option for you. He will ensure that you do not have an oral health issue that should be addressed before proceeding with the whitening treatment. Depending on how long it has been since your last teeth cleaning, it may be necessary for you to have them cleaned before proceeding. The reason this is necessary is plaque and tartar on the teeth will prevent the gel from being able reach the tooth enamel.

We offer our patients Sapphire teeth whitening. This system is different from some of the other popular in office whitening treatments. Two things that set it apart is the fact the teeth are treated with a desensitizing gel before the whitening gel is applied. The other difference it the use of the Sapphire Plasma Arc rather than the UV light that is associated with other systems.

The treatment takes about an hour, during this time the soft tissue in your mouth will be protected and the desensitizing gel will be applied, then the whitening gel. The plasma light will be used to activate the hydrogen peroxide, causing it to break up the stains. After 30 minutes, the gel will be removed and your teeth will be assessed depending on the degree of, staining a second application may be necessary.

Mesa AZ patients who would prefer to whiten their teeth at home; can ask Dr. Fritz about Trèswhite® at home whitening trays.

Tooth whitening is only effective on natural enamel. If you have veneers, crowns, or implants these will not lighten during the whitening process, and depending on their shade, you could end up with teeth that are multiple shades. Dr. Fritz will discuss this during the exam you have before starting the whitening process.
